What Could Have Been… A Reflection on Charlie Kirk’s Life and Legacy

I am not an American.

I am a Filipino, and I love my country, the Philippines.

Yet, when I learned of the tragic assassination of Charlie Kirk on September 10, 2025, I found myself grieving deeply—not only for him, but also for his young family and the global movement he represented.

Who was Charlie Kirk?

I first encountered him through Instagram reels during the U.S. election season. What struck me most was not just his political commentary, but his boldness in sharing the Gospel. He traveled across campuses, engaging students with honesty and conviction, unafraid to stand for biblical truth in an age where such stances often invite criticism.

Charlie was a Bible-believing Christian, unapologetically defending his faith against cultural tides. He spoke on family, the sanctity of life, morality, and yes, even his love and defense for Israel. Whether you agreed with him or not, his eloquence, clarity of thought, and courage made him impossible to ignore.

At only 31, he had already become a powerful voice. Many believed he had the charisma, popularity, and conviction to one day lead his nation as president. Personally, I saw in him the makings of a modern-day Billy Graham in terms of his boldness and passion for reaching the next generation.

But a single bullet ended his earthly journey.

A Life Bigger Than Politics

Charlie’s story was never just about politics. His passion for Christ made him larger than any party, ideology, or campaign. He was willing to risk his life so that the name of Jesus would be proclaimed.

He leaves behind his wife, Erika, and two daughters who are far too young to fully understand their loss. My heart grieves for them. Yet, as Christians, we know his story does not end here. He has only changed his address—from earth to heaven.

Seeds That Cannot Be Silenced

In one of her public statements, Erika Kirk said that while the enemy thought Charlie’s mission would die with him, what truly happened is the birth of thousands, if not millions, of new voices ready to carry his torch.

History reminds us: when emperors die, their reign ends. But when martyrs die, their mission multiplies.

Already, I see men and women rising to continue what Charlie started. Just as after Billy Graham and Reinhard Bonnke, the work of evangelism did not end but expanded, so too will Charlie’s legacy endure.

This is the essence of Jesus’ Great Commission in Matthew 28:18–20:

“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations…”

Charlie lived this out until his last breath.

A Global Impact

Memorials for Charlie have been held across the world—Sydney, London, Berlin, Madrid—evidence of how far-reaching his influence had become. He touched millions, including this writer from Manila.

In my own church, Cathedral of Praise, we continue the mission in our own way: evangelism, city crusades, and boldly inviting people to encounter the Jesus who changes lives and gives eternal hope.

What Could Have Been?

Charlie could have become a president. He could have led a nation. He could have had decades more of ministry.

But God, in His sovereignty, allowed Charlie’s life to close at just 31. And though his earthly journey was cut short, his spiritual impact has only begun.

His life was proof that one person fully surrendered to God can spark a movement.

And so, what could have been… may in fact become something far greater.

If this reflection resonates with you, I hope you’ll take a moment to share it so others may also encounter the legacy of Charlie Kirk and the message he carried.
